Let’s dig into 10 quick SEO tips to improve your SEO strategies. There are a lot of actions you can take right now to improve your rankings. And they are really easy steps.

First of all, I want to say that all good SEO strategies are long-term solutions. As opposed to quick-fix solutions. If you are new to SEO, I recommend learning the basics of SEO first.

It’s also worth mentioning that Google makes updates to its search browser powerhouse all the time. So strategies that worked 5 years ago, might not work today. Or they might only partially work.

There are certain helpful SEO tips that are proven to work which I will dig into below.

IMPORTANT:

One overriding SEO strategy that you need to be thinking about is optimizing for your users. Google tailors search results to users’ search queries.  So you should always be thinking about what’s best for your user. Page speeds, user-friendly navigation, quality content that exactly helps them with their search, etc.

Google prioritizes videos. Video is more valuable than ever. Users love videos. They are usually easier to understand than having to read your whole blog post.

You can include video screen recordings from your computer to better illustrate your page. Or try creating moving infographics as another example. There are lots of different ideas for videos that you can use.

Users are more likely to visit your website after watching a video on YouTube, TikTok, and other social channels. This can often be more fruitful and illustrating than using any other type of content.

This is one of the main reasons why so many businesses have their own youtube channels and have social media videos flying. This is because investing heavily in video content wins them more traffic, which is excellent for SEO.

The more video content you create, the more quality traffic you can get.

There is a caveat to having videos that should be thought of, however. The fact is that video can slow down page load speed. And you need page loads to be fast for good SEO. Some good workarounds include just having a YouTube video embedded link. Or compressing your videos down to as small a file size as possible (before losing quality). Before you post your blog or page, always make sure to optimize your images. There are a couple of ways to optimize your images.

  1. Use concise and direct image names. But when it comes to SEO, it’s important to use relevant keywords in your images to help your webpage rank on search engines.
  2. Add image alt attributes. Google is moving to a more visual search response, so as to compete with other sources. This is a major miss if you don’t do it.
  3. Have correct sizing with your images. When you are sizing an image, in say photoshop or some other image editor, go for as small as possible. But don’t lose your quality by having super small images. But if the screen size calls for an image at around 1000 pixels, then make an image 1000 x 500. Not 2500 x 5000.
  4. Ensure you optimize images for page speed and user-friendliness, by compressing them so the image sizes aren’t huge. Images are also one of the biggest problems when it comes down to your page load times.
  5. There are some common file types that are used for images on the web: JPEG, GIF, and PNG. Each of these has different amounts of quality they retain in an image.  PNGs are the highest and JPEGs are the lowest. You can see that PNGs will retain a higher quality, but with that comes a larger file size. So you have to use it wisely as you don’t want to slow down your page speeds with a lot of large file-sized images.

As mentioned earlier, SEO is about serving people. Google’s updates to their search engine favor user-friendly elements on your page as well as the content. This is where you can get crafty on the UX (User Experience) optimization.

Examples of user-friendly optimization include:

  • Content that is founded on in-depth keyword research that digs into the subject that a user is searching for.
  • Having a great mobile-tailored layout.
  • Fast page loading speeds.
  • The content must offer value by fulfilling the needs of its audience.
  • Being relevant to what that person searched for. Not going too off the mark from that.

4th SEO Tip: Customer reviews

You should always have a plan for getting customers to review your products or services. Obviously, this works best when you are providing reviews for a specific service or product that generates reviews. But it can also work in other ways.

For instance, if you have a Google My Business (a very powerful tool in the SEO belt to have) get reviews added there. If you have rave client reviews, get them to add them to your review platforms: Yelp, Google My Business, etc.

Google favors these and will reward you with increased traffic and better rankings because you have some trust and authority with those good reviews.

They also provide a good user experience (UX), where a user will feel more likely to trust someone with good reviews.

5th SEO Tip: Think with SEO right from the beginning

When creating a website or redesigning it, make sure to bring in an SEO pro early on in the process.

If you aren’t thinking about tailoring your site along with SEO best practices, you will have trouble down the road.

This applies even more so to the mobile version of the site. Google rewards great mobile user experiences. This brings me to the next point:

You want to show a clean destination path as it can help you increase your click-through rate throughout your site.

Yoast SEO is a great free plugin if you are using WordPress to create Breadcrumbs. You’ll want to show your destination path clearly at the beginning of your page or post so as to interest your users in the rest of your content.

8th SEO Tip: Confirm your pages are indexed

Always make sure the most important pages of your site are indexed on Google with “site: www.example.com” search.

If they aren’t indexed, you won’t show up on search results at all in Google’s search engine!

The good news is that Google makes it easy to sort out indexing, with their Google Search Console tools. In this tool, you can sort out exactly why your pages aren’t getting indexed, be it a Google policy violation, or low-quality-content, etc.

First of all, you need to make sure you have a sitemap submitted on Google Search Console. Another great thing about the Yoast SEO WordPress plugin is its free Sitemap tool which I highly recommend.

If you are new to SEO or starting fresh with an SEO strategy for a site that has no traffic, it’s going to be hard to compete off the bat. You are up against websites that have been around for 10-20 years and have lots of authority and trust already.

Why would Google pick you over them?

That’s where you can start to shine by creating great content. That content should also support your SEO and whatever your business goals are.

When doing keyword research, make sure to incorporate user intent search queries.

You should tie them together with voice search queries (questions like “how do I open a cookie jar?”, as opposed to just optimizing for “cookie jar”). This will help support those user intent queries and boost your rankings with SEO.

When designing or structuring your content creation, always think with the user in mind.
