What is the Google Ads Editor, What Are it's benefits & Why Use It?

There is a fabulous tool in the world of PPC, called Google Ads Editor. When you start scaling your clients, you will find this tool more and more useful. The best part is it’s totally free!

What is Google Ads Editor?

Google Ads Editor is an application you can use offline on your computer for use on all of your Google Ads accounts.

This is used in place of making changes directly on the Google Ads interface online. You can make them all offline and in bulk. You can also work simultaneously with multiple accounts and jump between them.

Why use an offline Google Ads editor?

Google actually had already been using a version of the Google Ads Editor internally for a while before releasing it. Advertisers had to send bulk changes to their Google reps, and the reps used a version of this Google Ads Editor to make the changes.

Google then released the Google Ads Editor so that the advertisers themselves could make bulk changes to their own ads and not have to go through their own Google reps.

Who should use this tool

This tool is mostly useful for large, bulk updates on your campaigns, not for day-to-day check-ins on your account(s). Also, this tool isn’t for small tweaks to your accounts. The point of the editor is that it helps advertisers with large amounts of clients and campaigns make bulk changes at once.

How to Use Google Ads Editor

Now you know why you would or wouldn’t want to use the Google Ads Editor. Let’s learn more about how you can use it to your benefit.  It is easy to learn to use the tool and get a lot of value out of it. Google has a lot of documentation on this already and you can view all of that here.

Tips and tricks for use of the Google Ads Editor

Here are some examples where Google Ads Editor comes in handy:

  • Your website changes its URL and you have to change all the URLs for your campaigns.
  • You need to change any of the wording throughout the ads/or a special and its pricing that’s mentioned in all the ads.
  • You need to change the pricing of all your keyword in one go.
  • Your company name changed and it affects all your ads.
  • You want to quickly duplicate existing campaigns to then add to other accounts.
  • You need to duplicate ad groups and change them to a specific city.

You can use a find and replace feature

The coolest part of the Google Ads Editor is that there is a find and replace feature. The simplicity of it all is that you just have to launch your Google Ads Editor and hit “Replace-All” and you’ve edited all your ads in a matter of seconds. The same goes for duplicating any ads or campaigns. It’s just a simple copy and paste- literally ctrl + v. Then you upload your changes in bulk and you’re done.

Recap on all of the advantages of the Google Ads Editor

As you now know, the Google Ads Editor has a lot of different features. The tool alone makes this an extremely powerful weapon in the arsenal of any Google Ads advertiser. Let’s recap the main benefits of using the Google Ads Editor with your Google Ads:

1. Make multiple changes at once and in bulk

You can use Google Ads Editor to make multiple changes to Campaigns, Ad Groups, and Keywords all at the same time. Doing this saves a great amount of time, especially when doing things like adding new ad groups and keywords. When you have campaigns with hundreds of keywords, it could take hours to enter them one at a time. Now, you can do it in a few minutes.

2. Export and Import Account Information

You can export and import information at any level, and on any account.  You’ll be able to share it with other people working on the accounts, like a marketing agency for instance. This allows you to speed up your marketing efforts and coordinate with your team.

3. Copy, move & replace items

With Google Ads Editor, you can copy and paste sets of Ad Groups, Keywords, Ad Extensions, etc. into different campaigns or even different accounts. This is a great help if you have multiple campaigns that need different geo-targeting, which allows you to only have to build one campaign, then copy and paste it within the application. The same goes for the replace function. You can replace anything with the copy and replace function, and you can do it in bulk. All within a matter of seconds.

4. Make all your changes offline

Google Ads Editor is an application that you download and keep on your computer. This means that it does not need an internet connection for you to be able to make changes to your Campaigns, Ad Groups, Keywords, etc. This makes it super easy to make changes anywhere and then when you get back to an internet connection, you can then upload all your changes with your account (or multiple accounts) when you are connected again.

Conclusion

The reason I stress this editor so much is because sometimes you are spending way too much time on menial tasks.

These could be things such as updating 100-300 ads or campaigns with just some basic mentions of keywords. Sometimes a client has a special that changes every month and needs constant updating. Another example can be when a company name ends up changing and you have to change the URL or mention it throughout all the ads.

All these things can be updated in a matter of seconds. This gives you extra time that you could be doing other marketing steps or actions.

Happy Google Ads editing!
