Free Google Ads Script: Budget Limit Reached | Your Easy Guide
Enclosed is your free Google Ads script: Budget Limit Reached.
The “Budget Limit Reached” script is one of the most essential scripts you should have in your account.
The script is really as easy as copying and pasting it in. You just change your budget amount and the emails you want to be notified of the budget being reached.
If you’ve never added a script to your Google Ads account, I explain that as well below.
Benefits of the Budget Limit Reached script:
- Checks your campaigns hourly to ensure it doesn’t overspend.
- It pauses all of your Google Ads campaigns once they reach their monthly spend.
- Sends you an email that your account paused by reaching the limit.
- Once the new month starts, it automatically restarts the campaign to start all over again.
- This is a thoroughly tested script, and currently running on hundreds of accounts successfully.
If you are newer to Google Ads, you might ask why you would need the said script. It’s because Google tends to spend your allotted budget and then some to try and get you more clicks. And if your monthly budget is thousands of dollars, your overspending can be hundreds of dollars if let alone. And only worse if your budget is higher.
First things first: how to add a script
If you don’t have a coding background, a script can look pretty intimidating. But following these steps are simple. And following them exactly will get your new script added to your account.
Setting scripts up in Google
1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
2. Click the Tools icon and select Scripts under BULK ACTIONS:
3. Press the + icon to add a script.
4. Copy and paste your script code into the editor area, go ahead and delete that automatic “function main()” code:
5. When prompted, click AUTHORIZE so the script can access the account on your behalf. This has to be done once for each script.
6. (Conditional: This is if you want to see if the script is working). Click PREVIEW to run the script in preview mode: Results will appear in the CHANGES / LOGS panel.
The Only edits You need to make to the script
There are only two sections of the script that change from client to client: the monthly budget and your email(s).
This first section in the script is shown below. You can add as many CCs to the email as you’d like as long as you separate them by a comma and leave them in between the single quotes:
